Some Thoughts...

Hey me

Today has been good. It has, i've been reading more Iain M Banks interviews, especially about his new book Matter. What a fantastic premise he has set. Within his Sci-Fi novels he talks of a Utopia...it's just so perfect and i hate ranting on about it because it bores people. Just you know when certain topics, ideals and views just seem to click with you, well i think it's safe to say i've come to Love everything about Banks writing. The way he approaches his ideas is genius, he is so forward thinking that i doubt us, the world will ever reach the goal he has set us.

Basically The Culture is a Utopia.

an ideal place or state.

any visionary system of political or social perfection.

In this place money isn't needed. Racism, Homophobia and Conflict are things humans have overcome. The Culture spans hundreds of galaxies and consists of humanoids. The humans who live on ships the size of cities or vast orbital rings can live a life of luxury, following hobbies and self improvement. These people work for fulfilment. Obviously their's something not quite right in the human order of things when discussing Hedonistic tendencies, some would call it selfish...This society is run by AI aptly named Minds (capital M) These computers are vastly intelligent and highly moral, they can talk to millions of people at once and hold gargantuan (typo Shrug?) amounts of data. Honestly Minds are worth looking up. Apart from that, The Culture is just somthing i hope actually happens...atleast somwhere in this universe. That would be pretty damn nice if you ask me.

Ok so this sounds like just some Hard Sci Fi fantasy but I think their is so much to be learnt from Iain M Banks writing. Honest for me it has made me realise a lot more how tightly we are controlled in this world. I'm not turning all anarchistic (Down With the Queen!) I just think their are some things we need to think about, Banks writing definately made me a more peaceable person and it affected me greatly.

Ok i'm done ranting, these thoughts are things i want to look back at and remember how optimistic I was.

Mmm In a bit!
