Aspirations!
Dont we all have aspirations! God when i was a small i used to think i could do anything. I had dreams of being a pilot, actor, rock star. Yeah it's a good thing, dont get me wrong but you really notice how you lose all sight of those once held dreams. Bah! it's not a problem.
Let me get to the point anyway, i'm really glad i agreed to take part in a writing challenge every week with Shaun Kellett. (you can find his blog on the right) We both pick a topic every week and write a short story/description of somthing and upload this to Deviantart. We don't name the work and let people review it mmm i can actually tell it's starting to work. This constant practice is making me a better writer...planner...plotter, maybe someday ill be an Author!
well...a published author is what i mean. Successful and all that!

Some Thoughts...
Hey me
Today has been good. It has, i've been reading more Iain M Banks interviews, especially about his new book Matter. What a fantastic premise he has set. Within his Sci-Fi novels he talks of a Utopia...it's just so perfect and i hate ranting on about it because it bores people. Just you know when certain topics, ideals and views just seem to click with you, well i think it's safe to say i've come to Love everything about Banks writing. The way he approaches his ideas is genius, he is so forward thinking that i doubt us, the world will ever reach the goal he has set us.
Basically The Culture is a Utopia.
an ideal place or state.
In this place money isn't needed. Racism, Homophobia and Conflict are things humans have overcome. The Culture spans hundreds of galaxies and consists of humanoids. The humans who live on ships the size of cities or vast orbital rings can live a life of luxury, following hobbies and self improvement. These people work for fulfilment. Obviously their's something not quite right in the human order of things when discussing Hedonistic tendencies, some would call it selfish...This society is run by AI aptly named Minds (capital M) These computers are vastly intelligent and highly moral, they can talk to millions of people at once and hold gargantuan (typo Shrug?) amounts of data. Honestly Minds are worth looking up. Apart from that, The Culture is just somthing i hope actually happens...atleast somwhere in this universe. That would be pretty damn nice if you ask me.
Ok so this sounds like just some Hard Sci Fi fantasy but I think their is so much to be learnt from Iain M Banks writing. Honest for me it has made me realise a lot more how tightly we are controlled in this world. I'm not turning all anarchistic (Down With the Queen!) I just think their are some things we need to think about, Banks writing definately made me a more peaceable person and it affected me greatly.
Ok i'm done ranting, these thoughts are things i want to look back at and remember how optimistic I was.

My Deviantart Account
Alas it is now come to pass. How very droll. (can I even use that word? Droll? Inner monologue or what) Well anyway i have made a Deviantart account, Behold! It shall soon be filling full of my work. I hope. Well it is somewhere to start at i guess. Some tentative grip on the world with my clumsy scrabbling literate fingers...i will find purchase!

What's this?
Hello.
Well i thought I'd start a blog, Shaun (my writing companion) gave me the idea. I imagine I'll be using it to note down some of my thoughts, feelings and update people to the new pieces of writing that i produce. Anyway let me introduce myself. I'm 19 years old and live in England. I'm an aspiring author in waiting for a moment of clarity where i actually think of some topic to write a book about...and be proud of it. My name is Andrew...no need for an alias here. I'm a homegrown English guy. I'm not religious nor am I straight edge. I drink, eat and do things that are bad for me...but i really don't mind. Not yet anyway, I'd say i was on the verge hedonism, but saying that I'm not that selfish.
Well now you know me... i plan on opening another deviant art account (i already have a shared account with Shaun Kellett where our literature is posted).
Note this isn't a place where i want to moan and it isn't a place for being pretentious. Hopefully my posts will be down to earth, balanced and altogether meaningful at the same time so if you do happen to come across this blog don't expect some fruitless meandering of emotional turmoil because "life is just so like Rubbish? Duh!" It's just somewhere to collect my thoughts...well if i keep it up that is.
